New Digital Marquees, a New Name, and the Start of Something Larger at Reliant Park

Published: August 8, 2026

On August 11, community and county partners gathered in the West VIP Lobby to mark two milestones in the transformation of the Reliant Park campus: the unveiling of new state-of-the-art digital marquees at the key entrances, and the renaming of NRG to Relaint Stadium. The Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation along with Reliant hosted the ceremony and recognized the Harris County Redevelopment Authority and TIRZ 24 for helping fund the landscape improvements and the new marquees.

Speakers included HCSCC Board Chair Bishop James Dixon and CEO and Executive Director Martye Kendrick, Reliant President Brad Bentley, Houston Texans Chief Venue Officer Juan Rodriguez, Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Board Chairman Wesley Sinor, and Rene Martinez, Executive Director of the Harris County Redevelopment Authority and TIRZ 24.

“This is only the beginning,” Martinez said. “We’re happy to have made the initial catalyst investments, and we’re now having a very fruitful dialogue about what the future holds for this partnership. The southern loop has tremendous opportunity — if we unlock the primary infrastructure there, we could see roughly $12 billion in future development. This campus is a critical part of that bigger picture.”

It was a short ceremony for a piece of work that is easy to underestimate. The marquees and the ground around them are what millions of visitors see first — arriving for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, for football, for conventions, for graduations. That entrance is the first and last impression Harris County makes on every one of them.

NRG Stadium and the surrounding facilities were renamed Reliant Stadium and Reliant Park this month, approved by the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation and timed to the stadium’s 25th anniversary season. That is why the two milestones were celebrated together: the digital marquees and the new stadium signage are the first permanent marks of the new Reliant Park era.

Part of a larger campus strategy

The streetscape work is not a standalone project. The HCRDA’s most recent $180,000 contribution was one component of a broader set of improvements underway in and around the Reliant Park campus.

The figures step up from there. To date, the HCRDA has provided $480,000 in improvement on the campus, including a new rideshare facility and the landscape improvement and marquee signage. Planned HCRDA projects in the Reliant Park area over the next three years total $14.4 million — and that sits inside a broader program of roughly $65 million the authority expects to invest across this part of the county, primarily south of the loop.

Why it matters

Reliant Park is an economic engine for Harris County: it draws visitors, supports jobs and fills hotel rooms and restaurants well beyond its gates. Infrastructure that makes the campus easier to reach, safer to walk and better to look at protects that return. Sidewalks, lighting, signage and circulation are not cosmetic line items; they are the difference between a venue people enjoy and a destination they come back to.

That is why Martinez framed the marquees as a catalyst rather than a finish line. The authority’s assessment is that unlocking primary infrastructure south of the loop could support roughly $12 billion in future development — and the work at Reliant Park is one of the first visible steps toward it.

The HCRDA thanks the Harris County Sports & Convention Corporation and Reliant Park for their partnership and looks forward to the projects still ahead on the campus.
