TIRZ 24 is setting aside 25% from annual tax increments for a Permanent Affordable Housing Fund. This new fund will facilitate the development of a variety of affordable housing communities throughout the TIRZ and Harris County.
- This housing initiative is a result of the My Home is Here study from the Kinder Institute for Urban Research at Rice University.
- The study identified Harris County needs an estimated 20,000 new housing units per year for the next 10 years to meet existing and projected needs for housing fueled by ongoing job growth and continued affordability issues.
- Achieving this vision will require an estimated $47 billion budget – an audacious goal that will take multiple partnerships across private and public sectors and local, state and federal agencies.
HCRDA is the perfect partner to facilitate this work across multiple agencies and engage in initiatives to create housing solutions for the County.
